Debapriya Das

Debapriya Das is a professional dancer, performer and instructor specialising in Middle Eastern traditional & classical dances. Debapriya is trained in myriad of other dance styles ranging from Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Ballet and contemporary dance. Most of her recent works have been socially, culturally & politically relevant & creating space for Middle Eastern dances to thrive in India. Her initial foothold in Bellydance started with training in The 8 Elements™ of Bellydance back in 2016, post that Debapriya deep dived into folk dances from Egypt & Classical Oriental. Debapriya was awarded the “Emerging Artist Award” 2022 by Kolkata Center for Creativity, India for her work – ‘I’:Homage to my Hips. Debapriya & her company presented some of their work at the 14th Cairo! Budapest Festival, 2023. The company won the “Talent of the Year” award at Europe’s foremost oriental dance festival, making them the first Indian Dance company to win at the prestigious Oriental Dance Competition. Other than Bellydance, Debapriya is a Kathak dancer and tours with her Guru extensively. She had the opportunity of representing India at the 14th International Busan dance Festival, funded by the Govt of India. She was the principle dancer of the Indian Troupe “Rhythmotion” at the festival.
